To offer learning opportunities to professional people in special education, nursing, healthcare, social welfare, etc. through seminars and study tours abroad, for them to acquire the latest knowledge and vocational skills with a focus on practicality and real benefits rather than theories. Many of our projects are useful to laypersons also.<\/p>\n
1) Educational Seminars
\nwe have planned and operated\u3000seminars mainly in Tokyo, with many additional sessions in other cities.<\/p>\n
a) On special education related to autism spectrum, LD, etc. designed for teachers of kindergarten through high school and special schools for children with developmental disorders, nurses, physicians, psychologists, counselors, various therapists, parents of children with disorders, etc.
\nb) On healthcare for the elderly and persons with disabilities, for nurses, physicians, therapists, counselors, dentists, dietitians social workers, volunteers, home help aides, and other related occupations.<\/p>\n
2) Overseas Study Tours
\nWe plan, organize, and conduct approximately 20 study tours each year, mainly to the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand for healthcare, special education, social welfare, etc. in close collaboration with our sister company, Liberty International Inc.<\/p>\n

Notable seminars in early years<\/p>\n
Held a seminar in early 1982 in Tokyo on practical education for children with autism, inviting Dr. John B. Kelley and his wife from Los Angeles, and introduced a program from the U.S. which was then unique in Japan.
\nIt was attended by 200 teachers and therapists from all parts of Japan and was hailed as a valuable contribution to the education.<\/p>\n
In 1983 we invited Dr. Eric Schopler from the U.S., a pioneer in the humane and effective treatment of autism, and introduced TEACCH program to Japan.<\/p>\n
From 1989 we started conferences on LD. Collaborating with pioneering researchers, educators and with the largest newspaper company in the country, our \u201cSymposium of Education for Children with LD\u201d drew 1,700 teachers, parents, and journalists to its sessions in Tokyo. It was a huge success and gave impetus to creation of Japan Academy of Learning Disabilities and Japan Parents’ Association of Learning Disabilities.<\/p>\n
Even before our Institute was established, we had started overseas study tours from late 1970s mainly on education for children with autism and other disorders. With our reputation and contribution to the field through successful seminars we also expanded programs abroad, covering a wide range of subjects and themes.<\/p>\n
Especially noteworthy among our overseas programs are a number of series we have organized with well-known scholars. To name a few;<\/p>\n
– Hospice and palliative care study tours since 1988 with Dr. Alfons Deeken, a prominent philosopher and founder of the Japanese Association for Death Education and Grief Counseling.<\/p>\n
